Practice Tape helps parents get coaching notes on their child's martial arts practice. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. Questions or requests: [add CONTACT_EMAIL on Render].
Who this is for
Practice Tape accounts are for parents and guardians who are 18 or older. Children never create accounts or sign in. We don't sell Practice Tape to schools.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address and a password. We store only a scrambled (hashed) version of the password, so we can't read it.
- What you enter about each athlete: a name or nickname, age, sport, belt or level, competition organization, instructor name and email (if you add them), season start date, and any notes you type.
- Reports: the coaching notes, scores, goals and the still frames each report refers to, saved in your account so you can see progress over time.
- Billing: payments are handled by Stripe. We receive your plan status and a Stripe customer ID. We never see or store your card number.
- Emails: we send only what the account needs: password reset links, a reminder shortly before a free trial ends, a reminder before an annual plan renews, and, only if you turn it on in the app, a short daily note with an affirmation and a training objective (every one has an unsubscribe link, and we store your time zone to send it in the morning). We use an email service provider, Resend, to deliver them.
- Technical basics: a sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in, and standard server logs used to fix errors. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
Video stays on your device
When you record live or choose a video, the video is processed on your phone or computer. The video file is not uploaded to us. Live recording can capture sound as well (you can switch that off). Sound is analyzed on your device to count shouts such as kihaps and see how strong they are; the audio itself is never uploaded.
Still frames and the AI
To write a report, the app picks still frames from the video. After you tick the parent or guardian consent box, those frames, a few sound measurements if you chose to use sound (such as how many shouts were heard and how loud they were compared with the background), and the athlete's age, sport, level and any notes you wrote for that report, are sent to Anthropic's API, which writes the coaching notes. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, content sent through its API is not used to train its models by default. Anthropic's own privacy policy is at anthropic.com/legal/privacy. If you don't tick the consent box, nothing is sent.
Who else sees your information
- Anthropic, to write reports (above).
- Stripe, to take payments and manage subscriptions.
- Render, our hosting company, which stores the account database.
- Resend, which delivers our emails to you.
- Your athlete's instructor, only when you choose to share a report with them.
- Authorities, only if the law requires it.
We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Children's information
Practice Tape is for parents, not for children. The information about an athlete comes from you, their parent or guardian, and you give consent for it by using the app and ticking the consent box before frames are sent. You can see everything we hold about your athletes inside your account, and you can delete it at any time (below). We don't knowingly collect information from children directly. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Keeping and deleting your data
You can download a copy of everything in your account from Plans, using Download my data. We keep your data while your account is open. To delete it, sign in on the website, open Plans, and choose Delete my account. That permanently removes your athletes, reports, saved frames and sign-in, and ends any subscription. Stripe may keep payment records for tax and legal reasons. If you can't sign in, email us from the address on your account and we'll delete it.
Security
Traffic to Practice Tape is encrypted, passwords are hashed, and each account can only see its own data. No service is perfectly secure, so please choose a strong password that you don't use elsewhere.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date above and tell account holders by email.
